Are you good at texting? Characteristics that define good texting skills can vary wildly depending on who you ask and although I haven’t actually done it, I’m sure that a quick google search will result in more information than you would ever need on the topic. Most would probably agree with me that a text message should be brief and pointed. When you need to say more, make a call…right?

For the most part, we try to be respectful of everyone else’s time. Efficiency in communication is a good thing…most of the time. Have you ever found yourself looking for a good reason to call someone?
So…how is your prayer life these days? That comes across like a loaded question and many of us start wondering what defines healthy prayer. I once heard someone share that our prayer life should be like a series of phone calls where we know that God is always on the other end. Admittedly I think we all trend more towards a texting style of communication with God and although it may be quick and convenient we are really “short changing” a life changing opportunity.
These days people are feeling more isolated than ever and perhaps it’s a good time for us to revisit the idea of the casual, agenda-less, phone call with an old friend. It is also an opportunity for us to look at how we communicate with our Creator and lean into the truth that He always wants us to be sharing our thoughts, and life, with Him.
“Rejoice always. Pray continually. Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 CEB
