Good News???

I don’t like the news. I still pay attention to the headlines but most of them, no matter the source, highlight what is bad and wrong with the world. These days a little breaking news can make it seem like humanity has lost its mind. Still, every now and then, there’s a glimmer of hope. I am thankful for the good stories that are still being told even in these turbulent times.

I just saw a story about a 91-year-old man who lives across the street from a daycare.  He spends his days literally playing with the kids across the street.  He has dementia and, while he doesn’t really remember much, something draws him out the front door every day to get into whatever new adventure awaits.  The daycare worker said that she tells the kids that the man’s mind is sick but his heart is still very good.

I think this is similar to where we find ourselves right now.  Regardless of where we fall politically most of us can think of others—whom we love and respect—who seem to have “lost their minds.”  While it may seem that society has lost its mind we need to remember that the heart is still very good.

“God saw everything he had made: it was supremely good. There was evening and there was morning: the sixth day.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:31‬ ‭CEB

We have a choice.  If we notice all the things that are wrong with one another we will continually become more divided.  To fulfill our call as the Body of Christ we must choose to look at what is good within each other despite what is not.  We need to love each other, even when we disagree, and it is easier to love when we choose to see what is good.

It may not be “front page” but there is still supreme goodness within the heart of humanity!  What should we do now?

““ I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other.” ‭‭John‬ ‭13:34‬ ‭CEB
