The other day I was preparing for a ride around the neighborhood, and I could not find my helmet. I looked around, even checking places that I would never put it. I was beginning to get a little frustrated. Standing in the garage looking where it was supposed to be for the third time…there it was! Have you ever had one of those moments? The helmet was right there where I always hang it but somehow I had missed it. During the first pass, I was on the phone and the second, I was annoyed that I couldn’t find it. I had spent several minutes searching but I was distracted. It was only when I made a third pass that I actually intentionally looked for my helmet and when I looked it was right where it should be.

The “Parable of the Prodigal Son” is a story of a great reunion and, for the father, the return of his son is cause for great celebration. The older brother was frustrated with the idea of celebration because he was not paying attention to the reason behind it. He was distracted.
God’s love is about to get a little more obvious. Over the next few months, most of us will be reconnecting with friends and loved ones who we have not been able to see “in person” for almost a year. There will be cause for great celebration…on earth as it is in heaven. In these Holy moments, God’s presence and love will be more obvious. It is important that we are intentional in looking for it. Let us not miss these rare opportunities to witness Jesus!
“So he got up and went to his father. “While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion. His father ran to him, hugged him, and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 CEB
