The Sunrise

When I think of worship on Easter, my favorite moment is watching the sunrise.  Like God, the rising of the sun is completely out of our control and yet, completely necessary for life to exist.  There are few better reminders of the reality of our relationship with God than this.

For several years now watching that sunrise on Easter morning has become my priority!  I’ll confess I have been guilty of sneaking away from a Sunrise service to watch the sunrise.  I have also gone to “exceptional” heights to get above the treeline.  I know that I don’t actually need the physical display to reveal what I want to see and weather doesn’t always cooperate.  Still, if I can swing it, I’ll make the effort because I want to be there in awe of something amazing.

My favorite way to respond to an Easter sunrise is in celebration with other people.  This can be sharing a meal together, it can be in worship…it can even be virtual…as long as we are gathered and celebrating Jesus.

Of the amazing sunrises in my life one of my favorites was Easter morning last year.  The options for joining others in celebration were slim.  There was no church breakfast and no in-person worship.  I relentlessly held fast to the joy and hope that I found in the rising of the Son and I did discover new ways to celebrate with others.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:13‬ ‭CEB‬‬

Most of us are too quick to notice what is “wrong”  so it should be no surprise that we find ourselves longing for hope and joy.  A world void of hope and joy is a world that the Body of Believers has failed.

Easter people, don’t be distracted! It is hard for anyone to ignore an amazing sunrise and we see it! This Easter, witness the Sonrise! Discover/rediscover the Hope and Joy in Christ’s resurrection and celebrate all that God has and is doing!
