Have you ever tried to walk with your eyes closed?
Imagine you are in an empty parking lot. Your vehicle is about 100 yards away and the driver side door is an unobstructed straight shot from where you are right now. You close your eyes and walk.

How long did it take before you started to question whether or not you were still on track? When did you begin to wonder if your path was still clear? When did you take that first “peek” just to be sure you were still good?
If you tried it again, you’d probably come closer to actually keeping your eyes closed the whole time. Repeating the challenge over and over should reduce the urge to “peek” because you’d be gaining confidence and familiarity each time.
To truly live in God’s Kingdom we have to train our brains to think differently. Most people are actually capable of walking a straight line with their eyes closed fairly easily but we begin to doubt it. The trick is to either do it without thinking or spend time practicing so that you become familiar and build confidence. It’s cool if you can turn your brain off but wouldn’t you love to be able to say, “I’ve got this.”
“We live by faith and not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 CEB
We are taught to live (walk) by faith and not by our vision alone. The truth is that walking by faith is easier said than done. There are some amazing people who can “just do it” but most of us question, doubt, and fall back on something we know is safe. That is no problem though, because we can practice. God’s Kingdom far surpasses our own in every way. Jesus provides us the opportunity to daily accept the challenge to walk by faith. We can learn to trust God’s order more than our own. Trust God. It’s ok if you tend to peek, but always practice so that you become more familiar and more confident in what is truly most important.
