Approach

I have been fascinated with airplanes for as long as I can remember.  I have fond memories of walking up and down the flight line at airshows, exploring all sorts of different aircraft, and watching in amazement as they did fly-bys, demonstrating some of their capabilities.  I remember the first time I had control of an airplane.  I was five and couldn’t see the ground but I remember my dad teaching me to use a tall radio tower as a reference point so that I could see how the plane responded as I manipulated the controls.  It’s safe to claim that, during my childhood, I learned a lot more than most kids about airplanes and that is completely due to the fact that my father was passionate about them and he wanted to share that passion with me.

When you land an airplane your approach angle is very important.  You are coming down and forward and meeting a stationary runway that is ideally flat.  If you are descending too quickly you’ll hit the runway hard and crash.  If you don’t descend fast enough then you risk running out of runway or missing it entirely.  Wind, speed, and the aircraft itself all also provide variables on approach to landing a plane, which is definitely an art demanding experience and skill.

Our angle of approach to every day, every moment, is extremely important, but too often we don’t emphasize the value of developing our skill level.

“Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.”  ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭CEB‬‬

God’s Kingdom is not just something to discuss or hear someone else proclaim. We are supposed to live in it. To make the most of every moment Paul writes that we must make the renewal of our minds—the way we think—a transformative practice. “Kingdom Come” is real. Think differently, renew your mind, and God’s reality will be revealed!

My angle of approach to each day, each moment, is still very much a work in progress. The goal is to spend more time in God’s Kingdom, than in my own or in someone else’s. This approach to life also needs to be a passion that I relentlessly share with those around me!
