Greatness

Easton, my five-year-old nephew, really wants to ride a Onewheel unassisted.  He doesn’t need my hand anymore but he also doesn’t feel confident enough to let go.

Last week we were at the coast and Easton wanted to ride.  Since the sand is more forgiving when you fall, it was an excellent place for him to chase that goal of riding all by himself.  He had an audience cheering for him and he met the challenge with an impressive amount of determination.  He rode significantly while just laying one hand on mine and at one point was completely riding by himself!  He was good until he began to think too much–doubt set in–and then he grabbed my hand.

“And Jesus said, “Come.” Then Peter got out of the boat and was walking on the water toward Jesus.” Matthew‬ ‭14:29‬ ‭CEB

It may not be Onewheeling, and chances are slim that it is walking on water, but you can achieve unimaginable greatness. God has given each of us unique gifts and with the right amount of confidence and practice we can learn to do the greatest of things. Finding and living into your purpose is challenging but the impact is worth the required persistence.

Our world would certainly benefit from more of us leaning into our purposes and following our Creator’s calls in life. There is a great need for more encouragers and more extra hands to steady the process as well. We need to want it enough to try, and be persistent enough to keep improving.
