Best-Present

One highlight of my summer is our family vacation to the coast. Each year I get really stoked as the week approaches and it’s always a bummer when it comes to an end.

Brown Crew, Summer 22

I love summer but it’s not easily loved.  It gets extremely hot and humid and it’s hard to celebrate the storms that interrupt a beautiful sunny day–seemingly out of nowhere.  I could spend my summer in frustration, cursing the heat while clinging to fond memories of winter, but I assure you that in winter I’ll be missing the heat as I add bulky layers just to go outside.

Like the seasons of the year, life carries its own distinct greatness and challenge.  Regardless of the challenge it is important that we lean into and fully absorb what is revealed to us each day.

As I was unpacking from the beach I was overwhelmed by how much I missed the energy and vibe of our annual family trip.  Seeing some of my winter gear I became saddened by the fact that the summer would also end and had to remind myself to embrace the next week with anticipation of whatever will be great.  As I reflected on the past week, I realized how significant it could be if I were able to embrace each day the way I have embraced our beach trip for years.

“From that time Jesus began to announce, “Change your hearts and lives! Here comes the kingdom of heaven!”” Matthew‬ ‭4:17‬ ‭CEB

Jesus wanted us to work hard to change the way we approach each day and His message carries urgency.  Gaining Kingdom perspective is something we should be doing now, working hard to approach each day with great anticipation, despite any challenge, disappointment, or inconvenience it may bring.

I invite you to join me intentionally. With each sunrise, prepare for the greatness the day will carry. Spend each moment soaking up all that God has to offer, and finally, as the sun sets, let’s be thankful for everything experienced.
