The Truth

When I was eight years old I went on a hike to the top of Table Rock Mountain with my family.  As we drove to the trailhead we began to spot the mountain in the distance through occasional breaks in the treeline.  To this day I am still amazed every time I catch a view of Table Rock in the distance.  The mountain rises up out of the ridgeline and from the east its sides are vertical cliffs.  Despite its intimidating appearance, the hike was relatively easy and the view from the top was indescribable.  I have told many people about this place but words do not come close to doing it justice.  I find great joy in either taking or sending people there to see for themselves and even though I don’t really know exactly what they will see I do know that whatever they see can be great.

The view from the top of Table Rock mountain was and still is one that I cannot put into words yet it’s impact will continue to echo throughout my life.  I do think that places like this allow us a glimpse into God’s Truth.  The quest to know God’s Truth is one in which many of us place great value.  Words, images, and stories can provide us hints of the Truth but they cannot deliver the Truth in full.  Jesus is God’s Truth in its entirety.  When we ask for the Truth, God doesn’t just tell us.  God says “let me show you.”

“The Word became flesh and made his home among us. We have seen his glory, glory like that of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.”
