The Light

It’s 2AM and I’m driving through the desert. With me are 39 people who have no idea what is about to happen and 5 who, like me, have a little insight. I am so excited that I don’t even realize that I am supposed to be exhausted. We arrive at our destination and quietly unpack 45 sleeping bags, arrange them side by side, and go to sleep.

“Wakey wakey…” A familiar voice beckons us to open our eyes, we sit up as the sun begins to rise from the horizon. What we see is another one of those things that you simply cannot ever put into words. We watch the light begin to spill into the largest hole on the planet and what is revealed literally takes everyone’s breath away. I realize that life will never be the same…and this is my second time waking up on the rim of the Grand Canyon.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1:5 ‭CEB‬

God’s Kingdom is all around us yet many times it is more convenient to notice our own.  When Jesus was born, people were obsessed with their own various kingdoms.  Some were not good enough while others were considered so great that they must be protected at all cost.  When people learned that Jesus was the Messiah, most expected either that their own kingdom would be either perfected or destroyed.  God was born for neither.  Jesus was the light entering our world to reveal God’s Kingdom.  With this light we gain a completely different perspective…one that cannot be explained, one that can only be experienced.

Wake up…God is here with his hand outstretched and He is saying, “Let’s go! This is my world and I have so much to show you.”
