Greatest Of All Time

I’ve never been a big Tom Brady fan.  It is pretty easy to be critical of someone that good, especially if he plays for the “other” team.  Still I have to admit he is an absolutely amazing football player.  People had their doubts about Brady going into this NFL season.  He was too old and many said he would be lost without his Patriot team.  It was often said that the Buccaneers were taking a risk in choosing him…but were they?  Of course now, post-Super Bowl, no one doubts the Buc’s choice and no one can argue that Tom isn’t a great quarterback.  The Buccaneers could see the greatness in Tom Brady and I’d be willing to bet that some of that Brady greatness lay in his ability to see the greatness in the team around him.

Jesus got really popular during the last few years of His life.  You can see examples in the Gospel of Mark where Jesus really tries to avoid the spotlight.  While some people would flock to His Greatness others would be skeptical and even threatened by it.

“People were overcome with wonder, saying, “He does everything well! He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who can’t speak.””‭‭ Mark‬ ‭7:37‬ ‭CEB‬‬

Discernment is a gift but sometimes it can feel more like a curse.  If you are really good at noticing what is wrong, without noticing what is great, then you may be struggling.

If Jesus were here today, I’d like to think that I’d be recognizing the real “GOAT”. Still I’ll admit I have my moments where I might be missing it due to the overall obviousness of what is wrong. I heard someone say the other day, wonder can cure cynicism.” These days it’s fairly easy to be cynical. It’s important for everyone that we cling to our sources of wonder. Where do you see God’s greatness?
