Anticipate

A few years ago I placed a very significant, expensive, order online.  A fascinating and unique device that I had never seen or held in person.  Despite over a year of research placing that order still seemed irrational and slightly irresponsible.  

When online shopping started becoming practical it quickly became my preference.  Beyond saving a trip to the store, I actually appreciate the anticipation that comes with a delivery date.  There is something great in the process;  tracking that package, watching it cross the globe, getting updates on its progress, the excitement when you receive the, “Out for delivery” notification. 

There were two weeks between the day I clicked, “Complete order.” and the day my first Onewheel arrived on my doorstep.  The level of excitement that grew over those two weeks was incredible.  It would be a challenge upon arrival, something new and completely different.  There was a learning curve right out of the box.  Disappointment would have followed any expectations of hopping right on that new, strange vehicle and floating off into the sunset.  Fortunately, I was only confident that there was a new adventure beginning—one filled with amazing potential.  

Advent is a season of anticipation.  We reflect on a time when God, the Creator of all, would soon become flesh and walk in our shoes…among us.  For believers, the hope that grew behind the coming of the Messiah was immeasurable.  Those who thought they knew what would happen would be surprised, perhaps disappointed.  The whole world was in for a great adventure.

Every single day, a new adventure awaits with my Onewheel. I’m always discovering new potential. That same daily level of anticipation is a crucial part of our faith development. We need to greet the morning excited about what God is going to do and what God will reveal. Discipleship is a path that is full of amazing unknown. Each day a new adventure is beginning—one filled with incredible potential. Embrace that unknown with great anticipation!
